CLOUD SERVER HOSTING

Cloud Computing is a process of delivering/enabling scalable, expandable and almost perfectly elastic software services using internet technologies. It is a method of delivering Software as a Service (SaaS), delivered in a pay-per-use basis. It provides self service capabilities to users with scalable features to increase usage on requirement.

The various cloud based services commonly offered are:

Web Based Cloud Computing: Companies use the functionality provided by web services and do not have to develop a full application for their needs.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Organizations make use of the unlimited storage potential of the cloud infrastructure. They can expand and shrink their storage space as needed without having to worry about dedicated servers on site.

Software as a Service (SaaS): It allows people to access the functionality of a particular software without worrying about storage or other issues.

Platform as a Service (PaaS): Companies can run their applications on the cloud service’s platform without having to worry about maintaining hard drives and servers.

Utility Services: Companies that need to store a lot of data can store all of their data remotely and can even create a virtual data center.

Managed Services: These are applications used by the cloud service providers, such as anti-spam service.

Service Commerce: It is the creation of a hub of applications that can be used by an organisation’s members. It provides organisations the applications they need along with the services they desire.

The most popular services of the cloud are that of either infrastructure, platform, software, or storage.

As explained before, the most common cloud service is that one offering data storage disks and virtual servers, i.e. infrastructure. Examples of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) companies are Amazon, Rackspace, Flexiscale.

CLOUD SERVER HOSTING

If the cloud offers a development platform, and this includes operating system, programming language execution environment, database, and web server, the model is known as Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), examples of which are Google App Engine, Microsoft Azure, Salesforce. Operating system can be frequently upgraded and developed with PaaS, services can be obtained from diverse sources, and programming can be worked in teams (geographically distributed).

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), finally, means that users can access various software applications on a pay-per-use basis. As opposed to buying licensed programs, often very expensive. Examples of such services include widely used GMail, or Google Docs.

The following 3 descriptions are being used in the industry today to describe the main types of cloud computing service offerings. Chances are you won’t be able to find any two sites that describe these services in exactly the same way but most people do at least agree with the categories.

 Software as a Service (SaaS)

At the highest level is Software as a Service. SaaS delivers an application to a consumer or business user through a web browser client. The business logic and data for the application run on a server living somewhere on the network, not through an application running on the user’s computer. The software is normally sold to the end user via a subscription, as opposed to a one time, upfront license fee.

There are 1000s of examples of SaaS applications. One of the first, and still one of the best known, is Salesforce.com, which is an enterprise CRM tool. Other popular examples of SaaS applications are:

  1. Box.net
  2. Google Docs
  3. Microsoft Office 365
  4. Jira
  5. Basecamp

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

At the lowest level is Infrastructure as a Service. IaaS is as close to the “metal” as you can get. An IaaS service provider typically provides networked computers running in a hosted environment. At it simplest, the IaaS provides the hardware and, usually virtualized, OS.

Every web hosting company out there could almost be considered an IaaS provider. The key differentiator between a web hosting provider and an IaaS provider is how they charge for their services. A web hosting company charges by the system by the mo
